Famous Dubliners

I am always astonished how a relatively small city, like Dublin, has given us so many famous Dubliners.  Whether you look at politics, literature, music and acting, Dubliners are well represented.  Among the famous Dubliners are three writers who have won the Nobel Prize for Literature, namely George Bernard Shaw, William Butler Yeats and Samuel Beckett.

The Irish are renowned for being great writers, story tellers and playwrights and there is an impressive collection of talent.  In the world of theatre we have the likes of Oscar Wilde, Sean O'Casey, J M Synge, Samuel Beckett, George Bernard Shaw and R B Sheridan, while James Joyce, W B Yeats, Patrick Kavanagh, Brendan Behan, Roddy Doyle, Joseph O'Connor, Maeve Binchy, Elizabeth Bowen, Iris Murdoch, Bram Stoker, Jonathan Swift and W B Yeats represent the world of literature and poetry.

The world of music and acting is also littered with awsome Irish talent like U2, Gavin Friday and many more like Enya and the Corrs, who are famous Irish muscians, but not necessarily from Dublin.  While there are a lot of famous Irish actors, a lot of them were born and live outside of Dublin and are therefore not Dubliners, unlike the wonderful Brendan Gleeson, who is.
